Important guidelines for your stay in Zanzibar
Local phone provider
To make sure your phone works with a local provider, ask our team for a Yas (formerly Tigo) or Vodacom SIM card and credit. They offer the best internet and phone signal, so you can use WhatsApp and video calls without trouble.
Air conditioning and water
We strongly advise using both only when necessary, to respect the environment and the local context.
Mosquito nets
Please avoid touching them: they are delicate and can be easily damaged. Simply open or close the windows and doors, and ask our on-duty team for any help.
Swimwear
Women are kindly asked to avoid going topless, out of respect for the religious context of the village and its people.
Kids
The village children are lovely, but once you give them a toy or a treat they will keep coming back for the rest of your stay. To fully enjoy your time on the beach, it is best to be mindful of this.
Sun
Be careful with the sun, especially in the first days, and avoid being outdoors from 12:30 to 3:00 pm. Use SPF 50 at the start of your holiday and switch to SPF 20 towards the end.
Sea urchins
At low tide the lagoon is full of life, sea urchins included: wear water shoes when walking on the reef and in the shallow water.
Shopping
Buying from local residents is a nice thing to do, but pay the full amount only once you have completed all your purchases.
