The island, when you feel like leaving the pool
Nothing on the island is more than a couple of hours away. The team arranges the boat, the driver and the guide, and everything starts from the gate — so a day out means getting in a car, not organising one. Most trips are back in time for a swim before dinner.
All our tours have their own site, Amani Experiences: private boat trips to Mnemba and Prison Island, Stone Town and the spice farms, Jozani, the Nungwi sunset, and fly-in safaris to the Serengeti, Ngorongoro and Mikumi. Each day out is described with photos, itinerary and what is included, and the driver picks you up at the villa.

Half day, by boatThe reef around the private island, and the best snorkelling within reach of the villa. Dolphins turn up more often than not on the way back.
Full day, by roadCarved doors, the old spice market and the slave-trade memorial. Lunch somewhere shaded, then the sunset from the seafront.
Half day, by roadThe last stand of the red colobus monkey, which lives nowhere else on earth, plus a boardwalk through the mangroves.
Half day, by roadCloves, nutmeg, cinnamon and vanilla growing where they smell strongest. You taste everything, and lunch is cooked with it.
Half day, by dhowA strip of white sand that appears at low tide and is gone by evening. Grilled fish, a cool box, nobody else.
Full day, by roadThe south coast, for the dolphins and the oldest mosque in East Africa, dating to the twelfth century.
