A day in the south-east of the island that brings together nature, the sea and one of the most famous restaurants in Africa. It starts in Jozani Chwaka Bay National Park, the only national park in Zanzibar, home of the red colobus monkey.

Then the long white beach of Jambiani, where women farm seaweed in the lagoon at low tide, and finally lunch at The Rock, a small restaurant built on a coral rock in the middle of the sea, reachable on foot at low tide and by boat when the water rises.

Your private driver stays with you all day, so you move at your own pace and stop wherever you like.

It is a varied, easy day that suits all ages: a gentle walk in the forest, time on the beach and a long lunch with your feet almost in the water.

The Zanzibar red colobus lives only on this island, and Jozani is the best place to see it. With a park ranger you walk among tall trees where families of colobus jump from branch to branch, completely at ease with visitors.

Their red backs, white whiskers and long tails make them unmistakable. The walk continues on a wooden boardwalk through the mangroves, where crabs and mudskippers live between the roots.

A beach
Midday · Jambiani

A beach
that never ends.

Jambiani is a long village on the sea, with white sand and a lagoon that changes colour every hour with the tide. At low tide you see the women of the village tending their seaweed farms in the shallow water.

A walk along the beach, a swim if the tide allows and a moment to look at the colours of the south-east coast.

Lunch · The Rock

A restaurant
in the sea.

Twenty minutes away, The Rock sits on a coral rock off Michamvi Pingwe beach. At low tide you walk there across the sand; at high tide a small boat carries you over.

Fresh seafood, Italian-Zanzibari dishes and an ocean view on every side. After lunch your driver takes you back to the villa.
