Itika Serengeti Camp is a small, locally owned tented camp in the Central Serengeti, with just eight tents and a maximum of sixteen guests. It was kept small on purpose, so you never become a room number and always feel close to the wilderness around you.

The tents are spacious, with proper beds, en-suite bathrooms, indoor and outdoor showers, hot water and private decks. A family tent with two connecting rooms works well for families or two generations travelling together. From here the Seronera valley, the heart of the Serengeti, is a short drive away.

You fly from Zanzibar straight to the Seronera airstrip and your private guide is waiting with an open-sided Land Cruiser. As the camp likes to say: you can have the most beautiful room in Africa, but if you don’t wake up wondering what walked past in the night, something is missing.

All meals, drinking water, park fees, the private guide and vehicle, the return flight and emergency evacuation insurance are included, so once you land you only have to look around.

Day 1 · Arrival

Into the
Serengeti.

The morning flight leaves Zanzibar at 08:00 and lands at Seronera around midday. Your guide meets you with an open-sided game vehicle, unique for the ultimate game viewing, and drives 25 km to camp with a first game drive on the way.

At camp you are welcomed with cold or hot towels and a drink, then a hot lunch. In the afternoon, the first full game drive in the Seronera valley.

Your first lion may be waiting on the way to camp.
Big cats
Day 2 · The plains

Big cats
and endless plains.

After an early breakfast, a full day of unlimited game drives. Lions resting on the kopjes, cheetahs scanning the grass, leopards draped on acacia branches and, with luck, the rare black rhino, slowly returning after poaching reduced it to about seventy animals.

Herds of buffalo charge past the vehicle, elephants walk with their calves, giraffes nibble the acacias and hippos hide from the sun in the river.

Feel the presence of the big cats, not just see them.
Stories
Evenings · Camp life

Stories
under the stars.

As the sun sets you return to camp, where baboons, mongooses and hyraxes explore the rocks around the tents. A sundowner by the fire, stories of the day and a delicious dinner under a sky full of stars.

At night the sounds of the Serengeti come close: the call of a hyena, the roar of a lion far away.

Optional extra

The Serengeti
from above.

Consider a sunrise hot-air balloon flight over the plains: you float silently above the herds as the sun comes up, followed by a champagne bush breakfast. It is one of the most unforgettable experiences in Africa and can be added on the second or third day.
